Service & Philanthropy

Delta Phi Lambda's national philanthropy is Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention. Osteoporosis, meaning porous bones, is a deteriorating disease where bones gradually weaken and brittle. As such, there is a significantly higher risk for fractures, notably in the hip, spine, wrist, and shoulder.

While the exact cause of osteoporosis has not been identified, we can slow the progression of this condition by adjusting our lifestyles to ensure higher consumption of calcium-rich and vitamin D-rich foods, regular exercises, medical risk management, and support by various communities.

We partner with American Bone Health to educate ourselves and the public about this disease because women, especially Asian American women, are more susceptible to osteoporosis. In fact, the loss of bone density accelerates after menopause.

Delta Phi Lambda serves as a community that advances osteoporosis awareness, funds osteoporosis research, and assists communities affected by osteoporosis.
